Battery cover
Does anyone know the reason why the driver side battery box covers the inspection caps? Shouldn't one be able to check the fluids on ocassion without having to remove the cables and cover?

It is there to keep water off of your PCM. Some folks have had some electrical issues after removing the cover and water was allowed to spray on the PCM.

Yup, seen issues from water intrusion into the PCM with them removed.
If you've got Motorcraft batteries they are maintenance free. |

Just replaced with new maintenance free batterys but I have always thought it was a good idea to check the levels ocasionally. Can I remove enough from top of cover to get access to caps or would this cause issues?

You shouldn't ever have to check the levels.
