Question Mercon LV vs Valvoline

At my local car parts dealer and asked if they carried Mercon LP. The said no BUT they did have Valvoline ATF. Labeling said it was "equivalent" to Mercon SP and LV. I was wondering if any of you have had experience with this product? I am leery of equivalent products but I have had luck with Valvoline products in the past. Getting ready to do a full tranny flush and fill. Thx

I run the Valvoline Max life DEX/MERC, if thats the one they are talking about. No issues with it at all.

I run Amsoil tranny fluid in mine it is a replacement for Mercon LV and SP. Ive actually noticed better shifts and lower temps. I am a dealer for Amsoil if you are interested. Here is the link for the tranny fluid I am using.

Valvoline Max Life Dex/Merc meets all of the requirements of Mercon LV, its full synthetic and very well priced! Just flush trans every 30k, don't try to go extended with it or the Amsoil.

No I am not picking on Amsoil, it says to follow Ford service intervals for the 5R110 in the spec sheet right from Amsoil.

You are exactly right, definitely stick with the recomended service intervals. Since I have switched though I have noticed great perfomance gains from running it.

To the OP.

If you do use Valvoline it HAS to be MaxLife Dex/Merc in the red bottle, NOT the blue bottle they are very different fluids!

I dont mean like hauling A$$ gains but better shifts and lower temps.

Lower temps??
Since the transmission is thermostatically controlled, I doubt that claim.
And, by the way, I have run the Amsoil full syn motor oil in the past. I now run Rotella T6 and notice 0 difference as far as running the truck. I would not extend my oil change intervals unless they were willing to pay to change my injectors if I had trouble with them that could be traced back to that activity.

Redline D6 ATF appears to be the best alternative for the 5R110 but it is expensive.
