Canoe Carrier?

I need to carry an 18' canoe on my '05 crew cab short bed. Anyone do this? I'm thinking roof bars and the rear section of a ladder rack, Does anyone know of roof bars that can be mounted securely, preferably without drilling? I'm thinking semi-permanent installation. No strap-on mickey mouse. Any suggestions appreciated!
I have a tool box that pretty much rules out a conventional ladder rack with a front extension. I could move it, but I'd prefer not to.

When I had a pick-up, I just used 4 foam blocks that fit over the gunnels of the canoe and tie it down fore and aft on the roof. Works great if you don't have too heavy of a canoe. Mine weighs about 65 pounds. On my Ex, I rest the foam blocks on the factory roof rack cross bars. I got the blocks online from a canoe dealer. If you try to support it from just the rear of a ladder rack you will most likely damage the canoe as the bed and cab will move independently. you could use a full ladder rack and not have the canoe touch the cab at all though.
