196k F550 Getting a New Head, What else should I do?
I have a 2006 F550 with 196k miles on it that's currently at the dealer getting the left head replaced due to a cracked injector cup (ESP). They are removing the cab for the work. I average 10-12k miles on my work truck per year.
I'm having them pull the other head and install a new gasket with studs all around. I'm also thinking I'll have them replace the fan belt while they are in there. This is going to cost ~$800 with the parts costing nearly $700 of that. I'm a fully capable mechanic, but while it's at the dealer's with the cab off, what else should I consider doing? Thanks for your time, Carl |

Egads, changed up my last paragraph, meant to say the Oasis shows the truck had a new EGR cooler ~26k miles ago.
I ended up replacing the other head gasket, studs all around, BPD EGR cooler, new fan belt, a new CAC boot, and a transfer case breather hose. Last edited by lumberjack; 07-04-2011 at 04:42 PM. |
