Trans Fluid Question
Hello,
I just bought an 03 Excursion with the 6.0 liter in it and man do I love this truck. However I just took it to the dealership and had them change the trans fluid, just droping the pan and replacing both filters and refilling it. I noticed on my bill that they used Motocraft ATF LV. I questioned them because I thought I had to use Merchron SP not LV. The service aqdvisor told me that the Merchron LV replaced the SP, and this is what Ford is using now and they mix. I sure hope they know what they are talking about. Let me know if this is the truth or do I need to drop the pan change both filters and refill it again. Thank you for any and all help. |

From Ford Tech Service bulletin Sep/Oct 2009:
Tech tips Approval to Service ALL 5R110 Automatic Transmissions with MERCONŽ LV Beginning immediately ALL (2003 to 2010 MY) 5R110 automatic transmissions can be serviced with MERCONŽ LV automatic transmission fluid in place of MERCONŽ SP. Initially only the 2009/10MY 5R110 automatic transmissions were filled and serviced with MERCONŽ LV. In an effort to reduce complexity, Ford Motor Company is allowing all previous model year 5R110 automatic transmissions to be serviced with MERCONŽ LV automatic transmission fluid. This pertains to top off as well as fluid replacement. Mixing of MERCONŽ LV and MERCONŽ SP in the 5R110 transmission is acceptable. Extensive testing has been performed to insure there are no functional or durability concerns with the use of MERCONŽ LV in the 5R110 automatic transmission. Vehicles affected are F-Series Super Duty trucks (including chassis cab, motorhome, LCF). Motorcraft MERCONŽ LV is now available in three sizes: Part Number: XT-10-QLVC - 1 quart Part Number: XT-10-DLV - 55 gallon drum Part Number: XT-10-BLV - Bulk Further information can be found in the Workshop Manual, Section 307-1, Automatic Transmission |

What a podunk dealer. It should have been a full reverse hot flush with a machine not the half a$$ed job they did.

I would loooove to know what this 'reverse flush' you all keep talking about is....Fluid only pumps one way through an automatic transmission. The trans flush machine we use at the dealership uses the pump in the transmission to circulate fluid through the trans and machine. It is a fluid exchange.

I put mercon LV in my trans, look at my sig.
Here is a place online that has lv. It use to be $3.92 when I changed my fluid. Ryder call around to different dealer ships, they will have different prices. |
