Front Brake Job Questions
The Hawk pads I bought didnt come with new hardware. With only 30k on the truck, should I still replace the retraction clips that hold the pads on? I called my local dealership, and theyre $54 for the front set. OUCH! Anyone know where I can get em? (Part Number?)
What brand of brake fluid do you guys recommend? (I know it has to be DOT3) No synthetic either right? |

I had 105000 on my brake pads before I changed the originals. Even at that, the clips were in really good shape. Im sure there are some that will say no way, but if it was me, I would reuse them. Just dont bend them when taking them out.

well you're out of the corrosion states so there's a good chance your clips are okay. around here they never survive. your lucky if you get full pad life before they get so rusted up they freeze in the bracket. i usually have to take a hammer to the old pads to get them out

Clean them up with a small wire brush(brass) and the caliper bracket and all contact points and you should be fine. I bought new ones for mine at Carquest, but honestly I could of used the old ones over.
