6.0 or 6.4?
I purchased a used 04 F250 4x4 club cab xl and a week later the oil cooler and EGR cooler were out on it. So, now the dealership said they will give me a discount on labor and/or parts to fix it OR they will let me out of it free and clear so I can purchase an 08 F250 4x4 club cab xlt. If I keep the 04, I'm bulletproofing it, do bulletproofed bare bones 6.0 or the 6.4 loaded xlt, difference in payment = $50/month and both have about 93k miles.

get the 6.4 and bullet proof it.

actually i don't know. I hated my 6.0 until i "bulletprooffer" it. now i love it. ( i hope Dave doesn't see this.)

Perhaps this isn't the most unbiased time for me to answer (truck in the shop having the HPOP & IPR replaced, I did the EGR delete and a new oil cooler...and a new turbo)...but I would say get the 6.4. If you can get away with removing the DPF in your area, it wouldn't be a question for me at all.

honestly I love my 6.0 but I would go for the 6.4 since its an xlt versus an xl so much nicer interior. And I really like how the new trucks look I would have one if I could afford it.

i have heard nothing but bad things about the 6.4's around here.... driven a couple 6.0s and liked them, i just would rather not replace a motor in a 6.4 after 150,000 km's but just my opinion

i also have heard nothing but bad about 6.4's, except that they are crazy fast with just a tune

Look at the AL laws. Is there any law or anything about time after purchase. A week is really small window to have a problem.
So, if it was me. 6.0 all the way. Fix her and you are set! |

I'm not sure of the issues with the 6.4 but I would perfer to have the bells and whistles of the XLT. With that said if you spend another $50/mon and 6 months from now you have a big problem do you have the funds to cover that. I know I wouldn't.

Yeah, I'm torn because if I keep the 6.0, I'll have it bulletproofed, arp studs, headgaskets, oil bypass filter, coolant filter, sct tunes, and edge insight....
but if I take the 08, I'll have the xlt with leather interior, etc, with the gooseneck ball (hidden hitch), nicer grill guard (rather than just the bull bar), better rims/bumpers, edge insight, and coolant filter. |
