'04 6.0 Cautions

I am going to look at a few '04 6.0's and I am wanting to know is there anything special I need to look out for or know before hand? I thought I had heard of some problems with the early 6.0's.

Hard to say - word on the street is the '03's and early '04's had some issues but from being around here I'd have to say there are plenty of folks who have them and are getting up in the miles with no problems. No matter what be sure and post the VIN over in the Oasis Forum of the ones you like and I'll run Oasis Reports on 'em for you.

If you get one with a build date of March or April ir later, you should be fine. The later the build date the better for the most part. Def get the Oasis run, and then you will know its history. Good luck, and let us know when you find something.

on the oasis check for head gaskets, oil coolers, and egr coolers. Mine was clear as far as the head gaskets but I just had to do the oil cooler and egr cooler myself it was fairly easy but costed a lil over a grand and is a some what common problem on them. So far thats what I have had to do on mine but the head gaskets seem fine so far Mine was built in November 03 BTW

I have a 2/04 build and have only had the Glow plug buss bar orings leak, talking to the Diesel tech in my town was fairly common. Mine was a buy back a fairly clean OASIS at 33k miles only the turbo, ICP, and turbo hoses . Like others have said this is a must. Mine has been solid with 11k miles since I bought it and running it hard.
On follow up, the diesel tech and I talked quite a bit when I was in last week, he said since 03 he hasn't seen a single head gasket job, a few oil coolers and one EGR cooler that looked like a HG problem. But for the most part solid running trucks, minor repairs and recall work. I wonder how many trucks further south are effected by the HG/ head bolt problem than up north.

That would be interesting to know where the most common head gasket cases are
