Newbie Needs Help...
Hi, I've come across a 2004 F250 Lariat 6.0L Turbo Diesel for $18,625. It has 99,000 miles on it. From what I can tell there are various debates about this engine and reliability etc. I have a "green" business and what to run the truck on biodiesel. The truck has had 2 owners and has a clean carfax. It looks like it's been really well taken care of. It seems like this is a good deal? Would love some feedback from any of you.
Sorry if something like this has been posted a lot. I don't have tons of time to do a search and would really love some input. Thanks! |

Here is a couple of sites where you can check the truck price out.

Planning on doing a lot of mods or just wanting to run it on BD?

Probably just using BD with no mods. Would like to run B100. Eventually, maybe I would consider a mod to run on SVO or WVO, but mostly likely just use the B100.
I'm coming from a 2002 Acura MDX w/116,000 miles and has been a gem. I'm worried about getting into a truck that will need a lot of repairs. The price is right for me, but don't want to get into a "money pit". Just need to get a truck to be able to get my business really going. Is the 2004 6.0L something to be affraid of? |

Honestly if you dont want to have to mess with it yes it is one of the worst years for the 6.0L. the price you stated for the one you are looking at IMO is a very good price for the miles. The reason I asked is I would stick to maybe a 7.3L if you arent wanting to make huge power then when you change to BD you have a reliable workhorse that you dont have to put money into to fix the EGR oil cooler issues plus 7.3L can be had at very good prices if you find the right deal

The 6.0 is a great motor if you take care of a couple things Ford did wrong. Flush the Ford Gold coolant and replace it with a good Cat EC-1 rated ELC coolant. The coolant is reponsible for the oil cooler, egr cooler, head gasket issues with the 6.0. When you flush it, on the last drain rebuild the oil cooler and if you can delete the egr system. If you can't delete it the replace it with a Bulletproof Diesel egr cooler. From there on keep on top of your maintenance, use Motorcraft or Racor filters, a good 5w40 synthetic oil and your truck should be as reliable as anything on the road. For more info check the links in my sig.
