Hwy 441 Diesel and my PowerMax
I just got some work done by a local diesel shop and would like to share my overall experience.
About a month ago I started having injector issues after a recent trip to the dealership to get my FCIM replaced. I lagged around for a while shopping around on which injectors to go back with a looking at other parts making a wish. I found a diesel shop (Hwy 441 Diesel) that I pass by almost daily and I kept meaning to stop by and talk to the people to see what they were about since the only means of repair was the local dealer or myself which 95% of the time I chose myself unit browsing the ORG one day and seen a post written about Hwy 441 Diesel a Powerstroke specialist after that I knew I had to stop in and talk with the guys. I limped over there one afternoon as they were closing and met the Owner AJ Purcell. I got to talking with him and told him what was going on with the truck, and with any charge or me even asking he grabbed his scanner and diagnosed my truck which turned out #8 cylinder misfire. I told him my plans for the truck and asked for his opinion as to the work I should. I ended up ordering a Powermax Turbo, replacing #8 injector, adding a EGR delete kit supplied by him, upgrading the banjo bolts, and fuel pressure regulator, and the gaskets on the other injectors. AJ was really professional about his work and loves working on Powerstrokes. I told him that I wanted to do a write up about the mods but after dealing with these guys I figured I would make the write up more about him and his shop because I know most everyone on the org cares as much about there truck as I do mine, and it’s hard to find an honest trustworthy mechanic. To top it off he not only specializes in Powerstrokes, but owns one as well. Guys if your ever in the North Ga area (commerce) I recommend stopping by and checking these guys out. AJ Purcell Hwy 441 Diesel 127 Hwy 164 Commerce, GA 30529 (706) 677-0600 Ok about the mods. The Garrett Power Max is awesome. It during regular driving conditions it lags just a bit, but turn the tune up and give it some fuel and man it wakes this joker up. Nice loud whistle to it to boot. It gives you a nice seat of the pants feel. My temps are running about 100 deg cooler, but I cant say that all the turbo as the egr was deleted. My exhaust is straight piped an I have an 04 that whistled kind heavily anyway, but this thing is substantial. I feel confident that the banjo bolts made a small difference especially at wot. With these upgrades I have almost eliminated the black smoke I know some say that good and some say the some shows the power, but I feel it’s a cleaner burn thus providing more power. Now its time to start saving again for my ATS tranny. Below are some pics of the difference in stock vs upgraded. After reading this thread, and doing some more digging on the web, I decided to stop by and see the folks at 441 Diesel. My initial impression was very positive. I was gonna take my truck to Bill Hewitt in Buford, but these folks are only a few miles from me, and I feel confident that they will meet any needs I have. The folks at 441 Diesel will be seeing my truck for a general evaluation before I progress with my mods soon. Thanks for the write up on a local small business.
