Extended Warranty
My bank is offering a 4 yr/48,000 extended warranty for about 5k. My truck has 28k on it. I won't put the miles on it so it'll go the full 4 yrs. Do you think I need it? Appears to have everything covered except the EGR
Thanks |

I personally would take the 5k and purchase the full bulletproof kit at bulletproof diesel, studs, upgrade the gasket, add a coolant filter, flush the coolant and replace it with a Cat-1 rated ELC, edge insight, and anything else that you decide that you want. To keep it under 5k, I would do the installs myself.

I was offered an extended warranty 4 year/48K for $3200 by a Ford dealership on a recent service visit. The paperwork quote was $3900, but the service advisor said he'd knock $700 off it. My truck is a completely stock 06 F250 Lariat 6.0 with a little over 33k on it, and very clean (I gave those stats because I don't know how much that plays into a dealership's offer for an extended warranty). Your bank is looking out for their interest, not yours. I've no doubt the fine print will leave your further discomforted on whether you could ever collect on that policy.
Like others here have stated, those dollars are probably better spent addressing the known 6.0 achilles issues. |

Make sure your warranty only tells you what is NOT covered. Don't get suckered into a warranty that tell what is covered. There is too much room for them to weasel out of coverage.

Aftermarket warranties aren't worth the powder to blow them to hell.

Yes they are if you use them and you get the right kind. I have had on every used vehicle I've own and it has payed for it's self every-time. Like I said just make DAMN sure you get one that says the stuff that isn't covered. That way if it's not on there then it's covered.

take the 5k, do the studs/HG, delete the EGR, rebuild the oil cooler, and clean the turbo and refill it all with ELC coolant, and you really shouldnt need the warrenty

I got a 5yr/75k warranty from the credit union that funded my loan, for $2,300. The cost was added to the end of the loan, so nothing immediately out pocket. I did some research on the company, and the majority of their reviews were really good. Haven't had to use it yet, so I can't comment on my own experience. Had it been anything over $3k I would have just saved the money.

I've had extended warranty or maint. contracts on 3 vehicles, all three have paid for themselves.
New motor at 40K '91 Topaz. Rear end rebuild/upgrade 02 explorer and last week bed plate leaking, 05 6.0 superduty |
