Engine Teardown Endeavor

Hey Guys,

A buddy of mine and I are tearing my truck down and putting ARP head studs in it, along with a triple disc torque converter, freeze plugging the EGR cooler, and putting a Dfuser coolant filtration system on it. I cant afford to do the Bulletproof oil cooler, but is there anything else that my buddy or me should be looking at while were in there? Hes the mechanic (he used to work at a Ford dealership so he is well versed with the 6.0) and I will just be a helping hand.

My truck is an 06 4x4 and the current mods are an SCT Livewire with EGT probe, AFE stage II intake, 4 turbo back with a hollowed at cat, and zoodad. Any suggestions or input would be greatly appreciated as we are beginning to pull it apart tonight and will be putting it back together Friday night.

make sure to have the heads resurfaced and check the block for flatness. flush the coolant BEFORE you replace the oil cooler. ask me how I know this....

Yes, I forgot to mention that we are sending the heads to the machine shop tomorrow morning after we pull it out tonight. So are you saying that I need to replace the oil cooler as well? Also, my truck has 46k miles on it.

if it were me, i would spend the cash on an oil cooler and refil with some sort of elc - cat seems to be the trend here. there is no reason to have to tear back into your motor to change the oil cooler when it is already aprat. Also the turbo is off, change the oil drain line as well. Thats just me though, good luck

agree with jayson. flush with vc-9 before you tear it down. replace oil cooler and refill with elc instead of ford gold coolant. I used zerex elc because it was readily available from my local napa in concentrate. I would definately install a coolant filter too. you dont want to spend this kind of money and have the same problems down the road..

Clean your intake manifold. Very messy process but I did mine and it looks awesome...also painted it.

Ok, I will flush before I tear it down and I already have some ELC going into it. Also, I've already got the Dfuser coolant bypass filter in hand that I will be installing as well.

I will also check this out. I've been into one of these motors before and I think the '05 and newer had the updated stand pipe and stc fitting but I might be wrong.
