Transmission Service/Fluid Question

Im aware the Mercon LV has replaced the Mercon SP, but the 2 Ford Dealerships in my area, only have the SP in stock. Is the SP still ok to use?

I got the internal and external filters, and even a new gasket. Ive drained out 8qts so far, but havent dropped the tranny pan or pulled the external filter yet. Im gonna let it sit overnight to collect as much as I can in the pan, before I pull it.

Any other tips or advice before I button things up, would be appreciated.

If you do wind up dropping the pan, remember to clean up that magnet inside the pan.
If you do wind up replacing the internal filter, make certain to get the old gasket out too (the new internal filter has a white gasket at the top of the tube...when the old internal filter comes out, the old white gasket probably will stick inside and not come free on its own...you won't get a good fit if both gaskets remain inside).
Refill through the transmission dipstick tube NOT the engine oil fill and don't overfill.
Submit a sample of your used transmission fluid to a laboratory for analysis.

...Well the two points are right next to each other and it's easy to forget which fluid project it being worked on plus depending on what size bottles are bought they might be the same...

The lesson is valuable and I am definitely the beneficiary of my own few (maybe one or two...dozen perhaps) mistakes. As I recall, you overcame it very well!

It wasn't a specific reference but I think it's good advice - don't you agree?

I think your signature links are fantastic too - but the avatar is priceless!
