2007 Ford F250 6.0 L Powerstroke
Ok, first of all, I'm new in the diesel world of trucks. I own a 2004 Ford F150 "L", and I've been toying with the idea of buying a 2007 Powerstroke. In fact, I just learned about the engine issues with the PSD and spent the last 5 hours reading forums and searching the net for info (problems, complaints), to be more specific, on the last year of the 6.0 L diesel.
Here's my dilemma. I can get a real good deal on a beautiful brand new 2007 F250 4x4 Crew Cab Lariat Powerstroke with 3.73 gears, 20" tires, etc. or... I can wait until 2009 and get either the new 6.4L PSD (hopefully by then they'll have all the bugs worked out) or the 6.8 L V10 (if is not discountinued). The fact is that I never buy a new model the first year is introduced. My dad had bought many vehicles and taught me that from his own experience! In addition, I kind of don't like much the looks of the new F250s, either. Anyway, could anyone knowledgeable on the 6.0 L tell me if the 2007 Powerstrokes have been ironed out and are more reliable or at least acceptable in terms of durability and trouble-free maintenance? Even though, I can get this '07 PSD at a really good price considering MSRP and dealer cost, it's still a lot of dinero! And I don't want headaches with a brand new truck. Plz, I need advise as soon as possible since I have to make up my mind and contact the dealer before they sell this truck to someone else. Thank you guys in advance for any useful info you may provide. |

Good to see you did some reading before posting. Keep in mind the majority of people that come onto forums with questions about issues they are having with their rig. They didn't just come in from a daily drive and the truck ran fine. You're gonna find some lemon trucks out there. The majority of them, I think, are good solid trucks without any need of MAJOR warranty work. If I just came into the market right now looking for a new ford superduty I would defineitly try and get a 2007 6.0l. I would assume they have the majority of the kinks worked out. My 2003 runs great and hasn't given me any major hiccups. Some 06's are time bombs. Sadly, it seems like a hit and miss but in reality I don't think that is true. I say go for it and since it is a brand new truck it has no history or "oasis" to look into. If you decide to go through with it drive the hell out of the truck, work it. That's what everyone is saying I've even had "know it all" service advisors tell me that. I was surprised. lol By driving it hard you will force any issues out sooner rather then later. good luck man. |

I would agree with Darsey. Most of the issues from the early years seem to have been identified and dealt with, so the newer trucks won't have as many problems. Many on this site even with the early 6.0 Liters have had relatively few problems, but there are always exceptions. I would definitely go for the 2007 6.0L and just to be sure, get the extended warranty.

I think shawn and Darsey are correct about the 6.0L's. You need to go drive one of the new 6.4L trucks. They are very nice, much quieter, and better interior. If you have the option of buying an 09 6.4L I would buy the 6.4L. Either truck you will be happy with.
