My EGR valve. Should I be worried?!?!

Just pulled it for the first time, and got this sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. Truck only has 29k miles on it. Looked inside the EGR passageway it was bolted into, and it was pretty nasty. No standing puddles of fluid, but a bunch of that black pasty mess. To those of you who have pulled yours before, what did it look like? Should I be worried? I live in CA, so the EGR delete is out of the question.

Mine looked like that when I pulled mine. I cleaned it and the intake hole the best I could and replaced it. From my driving to work (where I lived last year) the truck never really got worked, and I think that is what caused mine to look that way. Truck runs fine. No worries here.

I'm contemplating pulling it again, now that I commute further now. Just curiosity more than anything else.

I hope you didn't get any extreme cleaner into those holes at the bottom of the top part. Otherwise, looks better than new. lol.
