Insight Mounting options

So, this is probably because of my profession, but I don't feel comfortable having my insight mounted in a visible location in my truck. For people who are just looking to steal stuff out of vehicles, the insight looks to much like a GPS for those morons to know the difference. So I've been playing with other options to mount the thing. Here is what I came up with and I'm gonna give it a shot. There is that mini glove box below the upfitter switches that I'm gonna try to use. The one in my truck was broken when I bought it so I need to replace, meaning I have one to use as a tester. I have taken another mount and modified it to fit in there and when I get it just how I like it I plan to fiberglass it in there. What do ya'll think?

As you can see the latch is broken on this one and shockingly it's only $75


I'm still playing with the angle, but once I get the angle right a little fiberglass and paint should make it look pretty good.

I've installed aftermarket stereos in the glovebox on my previous vehicles, leaving the factory one in plain view.

Yeah I've always liked doing it too. Before I went crazy with my current mustang, I always tried to keep the the sleeper look. My gauges were always in custom mounts in the glove box and just out of sight.

Great idea! I just ordered an insight CS and really don't want to mount it on the dash. Please keep us updated as you go.

I have my gps in that little glove box. Surprisingly the suction cup mount fits in there and stays stuck the top of the box. I just ordered my insight today and I'm gonna mount it up on the edge of the dash.

For those that are interested. Here is stage two and what it will look like when done. Next is some bondo to give it a smooth factory look and some paint to match the interior. I think I'm gonna like it when I'm done.



You can see some small gaps, but that will all get sealed up with the final filler and paint and this is the view from my driving position. Without the crappy cell phone camera it is still very easily visible and readable without moving from a relaxed driving position.
