Recently purchased 2003 F350....Question
I recently purchased an F350 w/ 180,000 miles from a local dealer in Dickinson, TX. It seemed fine and everything I checked for was ok. I test drove it 2 different times, then bought it "as is".....
Anyway, one trip out of town (about 320 miles) and then a little around town later......I have a blown Oil Cooler and EGR Cooler. They have taken it back and will cover "the first $2500" worth of repairs.....the 2 coolers. The dealership is trying now to get me to let them do the belt tensioner (about $500) and they tell me that two of the injectors test out a little flat. Replacement cost of about $900 ("big discount since they are already working on it"). The rest, they say, are ok. I cannot afford repairs right now......later would be better. **Question is: Should I push hard for them to fix the Injector issue since I had not driven it 400 miles before I had oil in the coolant bottle? Or, be happy that they are fixing anything? It was running and starting pretty well when I had it. I am wondering if I have any rights since the truck was bought "as is"....** Anyone with experience similar to this?? |

Push them as best as you can, then see what happens.
If they will only do the 2 coolers, we will give you all the help for you to do the injector and belt work yourself. |

You're lucky you got them to do anything at all. Those guys are technically in the clear and for them to man up and cover a big as bill like that is pretty cool of them IMO.

I'm with obsidian because they are clear of everything sold as is pay a little now or a lot later sounds like a good deal to me.

The dealer fixed the first '$2500 worth of repairs'.......whoo hoo
They replaced the EGR Valve and cooler as well as the oil cooler and related sensors and stuff. I have a 1 year warranty on parts and labor for that. Score..... However, the truck is back to leaking water.....only sometimes. Sometimes it is pouring out from what looks the water pump area. Sometimes after I drive....no leak. Confuses me. ![]() I will try to fix this myself. A_....local parts store is $85 with 1 year warranty. Guess I should do the belt tensioner while my hands will be dirty. And, thermostat as well. Then the new coolant. I am hoping to get through these little issues and be done.....at least for a while. I really like this truck.....if it will stay running reliably. I wish they would have seen the leaking too while they were fixing it. At least they could have told me for sure (while they were trying to sell me the other work that I did not let them do). |

Mine didnt really start pouring coolant... just a slow steady drip.
