6.0 are we sure we got the coolant thing figured out?

Was at the International dealer last week picking up some restore and fuel filters. We were talking and he said they have now gone to another coolant getting away from the red ELC. He said they were having quite a few "gear cover" failures where the red ELC was eating out the covers. He did not go into details and there were several people waiting behind me but said they are now going to Rotella Ultra ELC which is yellow and like 36 dollars a gallon. and discuss...JJ

The Rotella Ultra ELC is the new kid on the block and it looks very promising. I looked all over for some a couple weeks ago and the MidAtlantic distributor for Rotella didn't have a clue what I was talking about and kept trying to sell me the regular ELC.

If you can find it try it out and let us know where you found it.

im still running what the dealer recommends, it is interesting to follow these threads as you all swap coolants and all. Hopefully this new stuff will be the one! once my warranty runs out I would consider swapping to something better, but I would have to do some hard research, not just forum reading...

It does not tell me anything alarming, That means that all the Diesels out there have the wrong ELC. I don't buy it at all.

Ford is the only one having all these problems. We need to follow the majority of users.

After taking the junk out of my truck in October I will keep saying ELC EC-1 is the way to go.

....and why is that? Is there something about these engines that creates problems with it over other engines?

Yeah, it's a diesel! It requires special additives so if you use the green stuff you have to add sca's/dca's to the coolant and check it evey month and ajust as required. Then you have to flush and replace FREQUENTLY.

Get a proper diesel coolant.
