Battery Light Flickers

The battery light flickers when at low idle. No performance problems and easy starts. Any suggestions?

I have had 2 alternators go bad on my 01 7.3L, both times the battery light did the same thing you describe....It would flicker for a while, sometimes stay on for a longer amount of time, but the truck would start and run fine until finally it just went completely bad.... Good Luck

Mine does the same thing. It ended up being a bad plug to the alternator, but my diesel tech hasn't found an old engine harness to splice me a new one for it.

This has happend to me with a 3G on a Mustang. It was the regulator brushes going. They were almost totaly worn out. It did that exact thing you discribed.

So.

1. Check connections
2. If connections are good, get an alt!
If you dont want to buy a new one, take yours apart, you might see somthing simple like what I stated. Not sure, I have never had one of ours apart. Just smaller ones.

Checked voltage on batteries with the truck not running and it ts ok. Checked voltage with the truck running and it is not consistent. Now to find out if it is the alternator or wiring. With 180k miles on the clock. Probably the alternator.

Don't give up on your alternator yet. Mine was doing the same thing and under acceleration it would come on and go off. I left it idling and started wiggling wires (very technical stuff) on the alternator and heard a click. Light was off and hasn't been back on in 3 months. Let us know what you find out!

Had mine checked and it was bad. Got it rebuilt for $95. Got it on and all I can say is the person that said 7 min to change alternator is FOS.
