Differential Covers / Gaskets

Have a 2004 F350 4x4 and am contemplating changing the differential fluids....just because the truck is worked hard hauling items and figured an ounce of prevention may be worth something.

Do these differential covers use a gasket or is silicone sealant just applied and the surfaces mated to make/form the gasket?

If Amsoil is giving fluid away, I better get some before they change their mind!

This is the article that I followed when I did this on my Jeep. It's pretty easy to do. Jeep Axle Differential Fluid Change Service I bought a pump from Harbor Freight for a few bucks and that made it easy.

The only tricky part is getting the RTV just right so you don't have any leaks. I screwed up the first time and didn't have enough on the bottom and ended up with a small leak. No biggie just had to redo it.

Pretty easy. Put a bead of rtv I use the black stuff and lay a bead also going aroud the bolts. Typically will let it set up for a hour or two then toss in the fluid. Haven't done it on this truck but typically fill the fluid to the top of the fill hole.
