egr cooler

what is the difference between an '03/'04 up-pipe for the egr cooler and the up-pipe for the 2005's. I've heard that the 03/04 do not have a scoop on them but the 05 ones do....can anybody confirm this?? can the 03/04 up-pipes bolt onto the 2005's?? I am asking because I want to block my egr cooler by welding the up-pipe shut (basically my own version of the sneaky pipe) and I figure an up-pipe from an 03 would be easier to mod if it doesn't have the scoop....

also, I am planning on using custom tunes that shut off the egr...but if I was to take the tuner off my truck therefore allowing the egr cooler to open again, will I throw a code??

For the 05's it depends on the build date of the motor. Some early 05's didn't have the upscoop. I took a piece of round steel bar and welded it up on the one without the upscoop. 03, 04 and early 05 should all fit. Depends on the PCM as to the code throwing Cal emissions throws a code for sure. My truck originally came out of Ohio and it does not throw a code. It is also an early build 05 (09/04).
