Farming Diesel

Can Farm Diesel be used without any problems in the 6.0 ? I have a new 2006 F250 6.0 and I live in Farm Country my buddy owns a Farm and has tanks on his property and gave me the green light to use the fuel.

He said he uses it in his F350 and finds it actually makes his rig run better. Will Ford use this as an excuse to void someones warranty...??? Will/can it harm the engine at all - I am a tad hesitant putting Farm fuel in a $47,000 dollar PU...

Thanks...

Some on here have said that it makes their truck run better. As far as Ford, I dont know what their take on it is. The problem i see, is that it is illegal and comes with HUGE fines if you get caught. Cops will stop diesels to check their fuel tanks to. It happened while I was in Ohio this summer. They had a road block and were checking all the diesel's for Farm Fuel.

I think you need to work on a way to get the dye out so you won't get caught. Another thing to keep in mind is that on-road diesel is has less sulfur, so the extra sulfur in off-road may harm the engine...I'll have to check on the specifics of that though.

Of course you can always have an in-bed tank for farm fuel, with a hidden valve to change between tanks. But you only save about 40 cents a gallon on average, and the fines start at about $5000, so why take the chance?

Yea whatever you do you do not want to get that stuff in your main tank. The dye will stay in the tank and it will show up in a test even if you ran it all out.

i run off road diesel in my 04 6.0 any chance i get. I live in PA and no one really checks pickup trucks. Now big trucks like tri axle dump trucks and 18 wheelers are diff storys. I never seen them or even hread of them messing with pickups. Next time am stop by the DOT in my dump truck i will ask them. Hopefully am not stop any time soon

Yeah that's a good point Jammer. I have a buddy who has a ranch and runs it all the time in his Dodge. He's a huge tank on his place to fill up his equipment and last time I was out there he asked me if I wanted to fill up. I had just topped off, so I said no thanks but don't think I would have declined otherwise. I couldn't imagine ever getting checked - but heck this is my first diesel so what do I know. Is getting checked something people in pickups really need to be concerned with?

Getting checked in Indiana is a sure thing if you have farm plates on your diesel pickup. I've got both fuels on my farm but, I wont use offroad fuel its a 1000 dollar fine.I went to Kentucky 2 years ago to Farm Machinery Show and all diesel pickups were in seperate line getting fuel tanks checked.Ford dealers in Indiana will automatically decline warranty if red fuel is found in pickup. Not worth it. I suggest running Cetane booster in every tank fillup. I do and can tell a difference.

They checked me at the Florida Agricultural Inspection Station on U.S. 98. They asked me if I had any fruits, vegetables, or aquaculture, and, by the way, pull over there, we noticed you have a DIESEL truck. We need to inspect your fuel tank. It was a SLOW day for them, so they were bored and had nothing else to do, I guess. I NEVER got checked when I passed through the I-10 checkpoint.
