Please help the newbie!

Hey guys! I must admit, thiis is my first ford forum membership because this is the first ford Ive ever owned. It wont be my last. I love my ford. I bought it a year ago and have done nothing but brag about it since I got it. My question is this. Recently my pickup wants to sputter a bit. This only happens when I first start driving it. It doesnt matter if I let it run ten minutes or two Hrs. Once I get up to speed the first time it doesnt do it again. Could this be a fuel filter problem? The injectors are fine. How often should you change the fuel filters? 10k? Hopefully someone has had this issiue and can help. thanks!

Fuel filters would be a good, easy place to start.

I change mine every other oil change, so 10K

When was the last time they were changed?

The place where I got the pickup from changed them before I bought the vehicle. (I trust them lol). That was 9k ago. I am very unfamiliar with these vehicles. Are there two filters for the 6.0? Thanks

Yes one on the top of the engine (next to oil filter) and one on the HFCM / fuel pump, under the truck (under driver door, inside frame rail)

Also, these truck like nice clean oil, so change it regularly (I do every 5K) and consider switching to synthetic if it isn't already in there.

Only use Racor or Motorcraft filters too

with the rough start issue, could also check FICM, here's a link on how to......
Fuel Press

Out of curiosity, how do you KNOW the injectors are all good?

I have been using synthetic blend the last two times. I plan on switching to full synthetic next oil change. I change my oil every 4k. I took my pickup to the shop from where I bought the pickup and asked the guy to check the injectors because of the rough running at teh beginning of every run. He said that they were working fine. He said that he felt that filters might be the issue but with the injectors having steady and good pressure that it may be something else. It was a quick half day check up for the pickup and I havent been home to take it anywhere.

You said it sputters a bit, and only happens when you start driving it.

Pull out your EGR valve and clean it. It may be sticking due to soot build up.

It should be smoking more than normal if this is the case. It sounds like it could be injector stiction as well. Throw 2 bottles of Rev-X in with the oil on your next change. If it is stiction the Rev-X will clear it right up. BUT, check your FICM voltage first. The symptoms are nearly identical.

OK guys, thanks for your input. My pickup took a turn for the worse and start running horrible one morning. It happened to be the frist morning it froze hard. I changed the filters thinking maybe it gelled up but it didnt fix it. I then took it to a different mechanic to see if it threw codes. It did... P0265 and P0266! He said there are two possibilties. Either the injector is bad or the wiring harness is shorting out in the valve cover. Is there anyway I can find for myself which way its going before taking it to the shop for repairs?
