I average 15.5 to 16 this time of year. During the winter months I only see between 13 and 14.5 mpg. These numbers are the result of mostly a daily commute of 18 miles each way with about 15 red lights and stop signs along the way. Out of about 550 per tank I usually see about 100 miles of highway/non-stop driving. If more than 50% of the miles on any given tank are highway driven, I can average above 17.
The best I have ever seen on a tank was a little more than 18 mpg. |

'06 MPG Fanatic
It's interesting to see what others are getting for mileage and I thought I'd through my .02 into the mix.
I bought my truck last September and have been fanatical about measuring my mileage on a tank by tank basis. I fill up the tank to the cap flange every tank full and have kept every receipt. My average per tank has increased from about 13.2 mpg in the beginning to about 14.9 mpg at 26000 miles on the odometer. When I am on the highway I get 17.3 mpg. I run fuel additive on a regular basis and see about 3/4 of a mpg increase. Everyone's driving style differs and when I let my wife or daughter drive my truck, they get a full mpg more than me. I have a bigger shoe size and the extra weight must be the difference. LOL One last thing about the mpg meter in the speedo, it has never been close to the calculated mpg and has always been about 8/10ths higher than my calculated mileage. It currently reads 15.8mpg and I have not reset it for quite some time so the data set is very large which lowers margin of error. Both the mpg meter and the calculated mileage should intersect at about 100,000 miles at the rate they are closing on each other. |
