Trust this seller or stay away?

There's a new member on this forum that is selling a SCT 9600 Tuner for $385 and it seems like a good deal. I'm a little concerned that he's a rookie just joined in Aug 2010. He had asked me to send paypal payment as a gift to avoid the 3% charge from paypal. I'm a little suspicious at the fact that his paypal rating is "0" basically he's new to paypal as well, but then he knows his way around paypal to avoid the fees by sending it as a gift which tells me he is not a rookie.
So do I do the deal or stay away?

Well maybe he's thinking the same thing with you, since you have 20 posts. Yes granted you been a member since 08, but still. It's a hit and miss when you buy anthing online. If you use your credit card and if he doesn't send at least then you can dispute it with your credit card company.

At least he has 1 positive feedback so he is likely to be ok. Like topdwg said, if you pay him with a credit card at least you can dispute the charges if it doesn't go well.

Could always ask the seller to go through a third party escrow. Meaning he sends the part to a member here, you send the money to the same member, and once things look good to the "escrow," the money and part is sent out.

I agree this is probably the safest way. If he is honest then he should have no issue with this type of transaction.

Or pay 3% for the charges and then you can dispute with your card holder and paypal.

yup offer to cover the charges. But hey I ask for gifts all the time and I just made a new paypal but I am a seasoned veteran with paypal. So it is a hit or miss thing. Good luck.

I bought one of these from him about 3 or 4 weeks ago, no problems the unit is brand new and works great!
I wished I would have got the mount and EGR probe as well. Guess I can still order it.

I marked it as a gift on PayPal but for whatever reason I ended up paying the fee like 3 or 4 bucks, whatever.
