Oil Cooler Bad
My edge cs is showing a 20-30 degree spread in temp for EOT and ECT. YES i know my oil cooler is bad. Should i go with a stock oil cooler or not. If not stock i don't want to spend alot of money as i'm on a tight budget right now. What is a good aftermarket oil cooler. Also i heard about doing a egr delete what are the pros and cons of doing this to my engine. What would be a good egr delete to go with if i do it.
No head studs yet 2005 Lariet 153,000 miles Thank you |

EGR delete will depend on your state emissions testing. Also, with an EGR delete you will need to buy a tuner to turn off the EGR system, thus more cost. Deleting the EGR causes other issues. thus the tuner.
Stock oil cooler rebuild is your lowest cost. If you want to stay stock, buy an up graded EGR cooler and forget about it. After market oil coolers are spendy. Change out coolant for an ELC other than Ford's or add a coolant filter to keep the new oil cooler healthy. Just my view of things. |

If you live in a good state that doesn't do annual testing, then go with either a sinister or RCD delete kit found on ebay. I put the RCD kit in and it worked well. You will not need a tuner on the 04. It will only throw a soft code but no CEL's. Even if your truck was 05+ you can still leave the valve plugged in to complete the circuit. Offer $200 on ebay for the RCD kit. I would also recommend the swap the an ELC coolant like CAT or Fleetguard, its pretty much the same stuff. Then to keep that new oil cooler clean (which i would just get a stock replacement for) get the coolant filter kit. I bought the dfuser kit for $169. It was a good kit.

Oil cooler rebuild kit is 300 from Ford. The other option is to purchase a relocation kit from bulletproofcoolers.com (site sponsor) which is about 1800.... I just rebuilt mine this past week and deleted the EGR system. Its really not THAT bad but it is time consuming and you do have to remove the turbo.

My 05 threw a CEL with a EGR delete and the valve installed and plugged in. If your gonna delete it cross your fingers and/or plan on buying a tuner |

haha, i was looking at amdriven2live's sig when i commented on an 04 not needing a tuner. So yeah try doing the delete and see what happens. Newman's is the first i have heard of where it still threw a CEL after being plugged in. Anything is possible on these trucks. lol.
