Engine Degreaser for EGR Valve Cleaner?

Simple question, could I use engine degreaser instead of carb cleaner for my EGR valve? I have a whole case of engine degreaser in the attic, and I'm just gonna give it to my buddy who has a '74 Nova if I can't use it for this. So will it work?

I would use carb cleaner or brake cleaner myself.

I've heard to stay away from brake cleaner, but do you think I could get by with just engine degreaser? I have about 10 cans of it, and I can't stand looking at that dirty EGR valve laying in the valley of my engine.
