At 26,000 miles on my 2006 6.0 I changed to Schaeffer's fully synthetic 5w-40 along with an oil bypass filter which filters down to 2 microns. It sure runs smoother. Here is their web site if you want to study the specs.
Schaeffer Oil 3.0 | Industrial Lubricants | Diesel Fuel Additive | Synthetic Motor Oils |

There is a thread about Rotella T-5 10w-30 with good results on the posted UOA. It seems that the HEUI injectors like 30wt oil som much so that they will turn a 40wt into a 30wt.

I'm not sure if it's the "best" but I just got 60 lbs of this from the big brown truck yesterday. Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy-Duty Diesel Oil

since you are changing the oil cooler you will longer dry start up. 30w oils will not be a good idea. For this time stick with 40w since you are doing work on the truck. After that, you can make the decission for 30w or 40w.
I would stick with 40w oils (preferably 5W40) untill you can do an analysis and see which oil (30W or 40W) is better for your truck. I will be doing this |
