egr valve cleaning fluids

Hi folks.
In cleaning the egr valve once it's removed from the 6.0L diesel, does it have to be done specifically with Ford's Motorcraft carburetor cleaner and fuel injector cleaner, or can you use a different aftermarket brand? Thanks.

You can use whatever carb cleaner you want, just make sure that you do not get any cleaner in the weep holes.

Just an FYI, I bought a remanufactured one on eBay, so now I have two and can swap a clean one in and clean the dirty one later. Mine was fully clogged after 20K miles, so I figure this is a 15K PM.
