would this cause you concern?
Here's the skinny:
6.0 Excursion - build date 9-03, warranty start date 6-04. 9-06 at 28,000 miles this: 28214 KOEO P1111 KOEC P0401 P2285 KOER P1111 7827 6.0L TURBO BAD WAS PUTTING 29 PSI OF BOOST AND EGR VALVE FULL OF CARBON PERFORMANCE DIAG STEPS 1 2 3 4 5 7 8 9 1A 11 13 REPLACED EGR VALVE REPLACED TURBO REPLACED EXHAUST Y PIPE ON LEFT SIDE OF ENGINE EXTRA TIME TO REMOVE CARBON FROM INTAKE AND HAD TO TAKE TORCH TO TURBO BOLT RUSTED UP QC BY 3850 ROADTEST Looking at buying it now with 35,000 miles. Here's what I'm figuring - do you think I'm off?: Was not driven "like you stole it" (as you guys like to say ). The replacement was relatively recent and if we drive it and maintain it right, we should be OK. A different option is an '04 with 67,000 miles on it and has never had the EGR or turbo touched. Do you 'spose if it's going to go, it will go in the next 30,000? There are some other cosmetic factors that come into play between the two, but just thinking about engines and warranties right now... Thanks!

Um, I say the 04 with no issues with more milage depending on how much difference there is on price. On both of them, you still have till '09. What is the build date of the 04?

That one is built 5-04.

The 03 probably got the updated turbo and the 04 probably hasn't. I got mine updated and haven't had any problems but a friend of mine blew apart his aftercooler because his turbo wasn't updated and his truck is an 03.

The 5/04 one is the late build. It should have most of the stuff that the newer ones have. Mine and stumpy's trucks were built just before that, and we have beat on ours and had no problems. I think the 04 would be a good choice if everything else is good and the price is right.

OK, what about this one?
'05 (build date 8-04), EGR replaced 8-06, 36,000 miles. Looking at buying now with 45,000. I guess what I'm trying to figure out is if the EGR and/or turbo has been replaced once, is that all bad? And if it's never been done is that a tad bit scary? (One mechanic I spoke with said he'd probably rather see it already done on an '03 or '04 than not.) I know, nothing is guaranteed and there are no crystal balls... Thanks everybody! It will be a relief once we have something parked in the driveway and I can quit thinking about it so much!!! |

I would say go with the truck that already had the egr work done, they will all eventually need it done, I personally would go with a newer truck, I like the new grill and interior of the 05

I'd get the 04 over the 03.
