Engine/exhaust brake?
Is there an exhaust or engine brake available for the 6.0 with an automatic trans? I'm going to be buying a heavy duty dually in the next few weeks. Trying to decide between the new 6.7 Cummins w/auto and the new Super Duty. I will be pulling a 30+ foot horse trailer or 30+ ft flatbed with hay or 30+ foot 5th wheel. I really like the factory exhaust brake option on the Cummins. But, they don't have a long bed dually. I can get the truck converted to a longbed. I admit I don't know anything about the new Fords. Any info on available exhaust brakes and if additional mods have to be done to put one on would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, they are out there. You can also get tunes with the SCT to work similar to an exhaust break. They close a valve that is in the exhaust to help put back pressure on the motor and slow it down like an aftermarket exhaust break does. Prolly not as affective, but will work.
I would contact the vendors here, and I am sure they could get you the best price they can. |

The SCT exhaust brake does work. I had mine on in my truck just to check it out and I ended up turning it back off because I simply couldn't just let off the pedal and let the truck coast.

Do you have a link to the SCT unit?

The SCT exhaust brake is built right into their programmer for the 6.0 at least i know the custom tuners can do it for sure. Its in the programming for the xcal 2 and livewire.
BD is the only one i know for sure that makes a regular style exhaust brake for the 6.0 BD Engine Brake - Ford Diesel Exhaust Brakes |

It is called the SCT Xcal 2. It is by far the best tuner for the 6.0s. You can get tunes from mild to wild, tow tunes, and the exhaust break tune. Get ahold of LIPD, DJs, Or Discount Power Parts and any of them can fix you up. They are real nice because you can get custom tunes for whatever you need, and switch them out when ya want. I probably have 30 different tunes for my truck. Better than the 3 you get with any other power adder.
I will say too, if you start looking at a programmer, you will need guages first. Also a good free flowing exhaust will help keep those EGTs cooler. |

So that I understand all this, the SCT programmer can be used to act like and exhaust brake by modifying valve timing?

On the 6.0 it closes the vanes on the VGT turbo i believe

Or closes the EBPV. Maybe both, not really sure.
