Question for California Members
Hello All:
I live here in Texas, and I am deleting the Cat and EGR. I am going to be making a trip to San Diego the first part of August. Just how strict are the California people? Do they do any tests when you get into the state? I just want to be on the safe side. I usually follow all the laws, and my truck doesn't look out of the ordinary. I am just curious if I should put my cat back on and hold of deleting the EGR. However, I don't want to have one crap out on me 600 miles from home. Any input would be greatly appreciated. |

You only have your truck inspected in California if you are registering it in California.
If you have current Texas registration and you are only visiting California for a short time you will have no vehicle inspections and no problems. If you are moving to California and will be living here, working here and driving here then you will need to register your truck here, which would require an emissions check. |

can't they still ticket you for having the delete, even if you are from out of state? not saying likely...but i thought they still could if you get a hard a$$ cop......

if you are just visiting California, you will be ok, just don't give the cop a reason to pull you. if you move here/register it in CA, will need to put that kitty back on cuz the douches in Sacramento just passed a smog check law for 1998 and newer diesels.

That will not happen!! Absolutely would not happen. You would have to ask for them to ticket you for that very reason, even if you gave them the specific section to cite you and you were the biggest a$$ in the world, it wouldn't happen any more than it would happen in Texas!!

agreed...as one that moved from texas. if youre visting cali, have at it. if youre moving to cali, you will have to pass a visual which will include a look for a cat if your vehicle came with one from the factory

Alright, thanks folks. Well my brother in law is in the Marines, or he wouldn't be there either. I'm glad of that. I just haven't been there much, and every California vehicle has all this extra EPA crap on it, and I think that this Al Gore mentality is all a bunch of BS.

As much as California sucks balls i dont think you will have an issue with just visiting. What i will say is Cops out here for the most part treat you as you treat them, if you get pulled over be cool and take the original cite if one is issued, if you try to argue the situation is only going to get worse.
