03 turbo

Hey guys ive got an 03 6.0 and the turbo is shot. Can they be rebuilt or would it be better to just go with a different turbo all together.

How do you know it's shot?

It can be rebuilt most likely. You could also get a used unit. 03-07 have very minimal functionality differences. The 03 is the loudest. The 04 is next. The 05-07 are said to have longivity issues addressed with the vgt portion. The next option would be a powermax replacement if you plan to mod the truck with larger injectors. A rebuild would likely be cheaper though.

Well i dont know that it is shot for sure. The truck is strait piped and there is now whistle or jet sound out the tail pipe. It has no boost. Im goin to replace the upipe and y pipe on the back of the motor cause i belive they are leaking. Im just trying to prepare for the worst so to speak.

If you can definitely hear the turbo but it's making no boost check the CAC boots. One of them may have popped off or has a tear in it.

At idle you cant hear the turbo. Once you get moveing you can start to hear the whistle but its nothing like an 03 turbo should be.

check for leaks before the turbo. The flex sections in the up pipes are well known to crack. It is also possible that the vanes are sooted up and sticking, in which case it just needs disassembly and cleaning.
