I've got a 2005 F-350 6.0 Diesel 4 door long bed & order a set of gears & before going into they say it's a 10.25 but i'm not sure if it's that or the 10.5! how can you tell?

You have a sterling 10.5 or a dana 80 but most likely a sterling but if you want to make sure look at the tag on the dif cover and one will talk about what oil to use and the other one should read L73 if you have a limited slip 3:73 then 10 5 for sterling 10.5 so it should read L73 10 5 + some others I think

Thats what it say on the tag L73 10 5 The guys @ 4wheelparts sent me the wrong gears then! they sent me 10.25 long for the rear & a Dana 60 REV Thick R&P for the front! "I"m now wondering if the front is even right?!?!?!?!?!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

The sterling 10.25 and 10.5 are actually very similar and the diff carrier and gears are interchangeable between the two. You can use a 10.25 ring and pinion in a 10.5 diff but you need to use a 10.25 pinion bearing.
Did you get a overhaul kit with the new ring and pinion? If you did, just make sure you have a 10.25 overhaul kit and you will be good to go. And yes you would have a dana 60 on the front. EDIT-which brand of gears did you get? If you go on yukon gears website under ford 10.5. All the ring and pinions they offer have a 10.25 part number(http://www.yukongear.com/PartsList.a...gs+%26+Pinions) Then if you look under installation kits for the ford 10.5 axle they list a 10.25 installation kit(http://www.yukongear.com/PartsList.a...tallation+Kits) Last edited by 6.0DSLPWR; 07-06-2010 at 06:06 PM. |

Sounds to me like 4wheelparts sent you the right stuff. If you are still in doubt you could always get in tough with them and confirm.
What gear ratio did you get? Are you re gearing due to a larger tire size? |
