reverse foglight mod
I've been looking at the sticky for this mod and have a question for those who have done it.
Is there a way to wire them to a switch on the dash so you can turn them on independant of the light switch? I have the lights mounted and only have to wire them, but don't want to move forward until I can find out about the extra switch and how to do it. |

Are you asking about foglights mounted in the bumper that were not there from the factory or are you asking about installing fog lights under the rear bumper to use a back up lights?
I can help you do either. |

Marty I installed aftermarket lights under the bumper(on the receiver cross bar) to use as back-up lights, but would like to be able to turn them on with a switch when I need to hook up my trailer at night.

I installed some cheapo fog lights on an idependent switch on my dash for the same purpose - too hook up my trailer at night - have it on a lighted switch left of my steering wheel. Ran a power line fused to my battery - worked well.

You could use a double throw switch. Run the lights off the middle pole, run the back up light circuit off the one side or the other and power to the unused pole.
In one position, the lights would work off of the reverse light circiut. (on in reverse, off when not) Flip it the other way and put power directly the lights for hooking up your trailer. Just be sure to flip it back when done. |

Install the fog lights and connect the positive wiring and run it to the front of the truck neatly. Install a spade connector on the end of the power. Ground the lights to the frame. Install them on the 30amp relay on positions number 87.
Take a toggle switch from inside the cab and run the power wire out into the engine bay and attach a spade connector. Then install it on the 30amp relay on position number 85. If you don't want to run a toggle switch, connect into the factory reverse light power wire. Run that up to position number 85 instead. Whenever you have your truck in reverse those lights will automatically come on. If you need to use it for light, you can put the emergency brake on, turn the key forward and put the truck in reverse. This will give you light behind the truck instead of the toggle switch.Attach a ground using another female spade connector to position number 86 Run an inline fuse directly off the battery housing a 30amp fuse in it. Connect another wire to it and run it to the relay and install it with a spade connector on position number 30.

If I hook up a toggle switch in the cab to 85, could I also hook up my reverse power wire to 86 as well - giving me the extra light when in reverse automatically, as well as light when wanted from the toggle switch? I'm 99% sure that'd work, just wanting your advice, as well. Thanks.

I finished this mod up today, but didn't install the switch on the dash for light when the truck isn't in reverse.
I figured it wouldbe just as easy to set the parking brake and put teh truck in reverse when I need light to hook up my trailer. |
