honestly.....i dont even own a scan tool....and i dont have an answer to your question......ive used a couple cheap ones.....one was a 60 dollar special...and it worked better on my old ladies volvo than a 3k dollar OTC one........make sure you get one compatable with your truck...(OBDII if it is 96 and newer)....and from there i cant be much help...maybe someone else can.......Marc
