First Regular Maintenance

Having only bought my truck two weeks ago, I've decided to service it earlier than what the little sticker in the window says (which says in 3k miles). Just want to be sure the regular maintenance is all squared away. I've read the little Powerstroke book that came with, but I'm new to diesels and still learning. My question is any advice on what I should get done/checked out besides an oil/filter change? I've seen a couple threads on synthetic vs regular oil, I've always ran synthetic so not to open a new can, which brand is good?
