Questions about head studs and EGR delete
My '05 has developed a small leak at the back of one head. My mechanic says it's time to save my pennies..I mean $100's, and get my heads done ASAP. I am going to get the studs and EGR delete kits myself. I am NOT a mechanic so most of what you all talk about on here might as well be chinese. What stud kit is my best option? Same for the EGR delete kit. Are there any other parts I should have replaced or serviced while the heads are being done? I do not tow, or drive off-road, so would a chip/tuner still be advisable? I have seen the thread on here showing how to clean the turbo, would this be wise to have done at the same time too? I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but with the expense of this job I don't want to revisit anything anytime soon. Thanks.

For studs go with ARP. MKM customs makes a good egr delete kit. Make sure that you replace the stc fitting in the HPOP as well as the oil rail plugs. Make sure to get your heads checked for flattnes and cracks. I tow heavy with a tow tune so if the job is done right you will be fine using a tuner. Get an SCT with custom tunes.

ARP studs will be more than adequate for your needs to keep your heads clamped down. Cleaning the turbo might be a good idea while you have it out, although certainly not necessary if you aren't having problems with it. Have the intake soaked and cleaned to clear all of the carbon and soot out of it. If you have emissions checking in your area, you might not want to consider the EGR delete. As far as a tuner, you should get an SCT with custom tunes on it. It will really wake up your engine and make it a lot more fun.
