how to identify axle?

I am getting ready to do gears and when I look up my truck there are a few different axles that it gives me? Is it stamped somewhere on the axle? Its an 04 F250 6.0L 4x4 auto if that helps. And also It has a 9" lift with 38's, do you think 4.30's would be good, only towing I do is a 21ft ski boat occasionally, thanks for any help

Should be on the door tag, driver side. Mine says D1.

Find yours and go here:

If still not sure, go to ford and have them print out a build sheet for your vin#

I don't know enough about gear ratios to answer your second question. Some one else might come along and help.
