Diesel nazi in the drive-thru
Anybody else know the one diesel hater out there that tells you to shut off the engine at the drive-thru? I got this one angry fart who right away, before i can even start my order, chorts a "TURN OFF YER ENGINE!", then before i can turn it off, i get a louder, "PLEASE SIR, YOUR ENGINE!!.
Today it happened again. This time after he slung the bag at me, and without a good day, or thanks for the business, mind you. I slowly took my foot off the brake to move just a bit further up... put her in neutral and mashed the throttle all the way to the floor so numbnuts could really here that 4" SS turbo back answer back, "NO DIESEL NAZI, I CAN'T HERE YOU.... MY ENGINE IS TOO FRIGGIN LOUD!!!!!!! ENJOY THE TASTE OF THIS HERE DIESEL CONCOCTION!!!" Loved it. Since he's the only dill weed who has a problem with my sound, I can live with that. I just don't think I'll be back anytime soon. Not too fond of saliva sandwiches. Last edited by Stroker Ace : 04-04-2006 at 09:46 AM. |

Not to hurt feelings, but ..... I have to agree with those that do shut it down. I shut mine down. I've been inside take out joints when a diesel pulls thru. On their end, it is "I-rumble-rumble-rattle-quarter-rattle-rumble-small-rattle-rattle-oke". Shutting down is just plain courtesy, and there is a better than average chance you will get what you want, not what they think they "he-rattle-rattle-rumble-ar". Soap Box One of the biggest problems now days, it that very few actually know / understand / practice courtesy. It's hurry up, get outta my way, etc. I both drive and live by this: What the hurry? Where you are going is still gonna be there when you get there ... if it's not, you really didn't need to be there to begin with. If your late, get going a little earlier. Soap Box Off Just what are you worried about breaking by shutting it down - or do you let it idle 24 hours a day? |

Good point Larry and the rest of the respondees! I'm new to the diesel, so I never really saw it from the other side of the speaker. I guess it could be a nuisance.... and these guys are in a hot box, earning an honest, yet tight living. Just thought after the guy snapped at me twice before I could even turn the key off was a bit too eager. Also, the little devil on my shoulder really egged me on to give it a good REVVING!!!!!! I'll shut 'er down from here on out. Learning one start at a time. |

Thanks Stroker. I used to think it was hard to understand them outside, but they have it twice as bad inside. First time I heard it inside, I was truely amazed that they could get the vast majority of the orders right. Have to agree with you though, that little dude that occasionally appears on my left shoulder can really be trying at times.
