Flash Question

I have a 2003 f350 6.0l. I inhereted the truck after my dad passed away. I do not know if it has ever been flashed with a more current version. My question is how do I know what flash is in it and is it a good idea to get a current flash every so often. Any help would be appreciated.

If the truck has never been flashed, be very happy, all the flash will do is take away your power and MPG. So if the truck is running good now, don't go near a dealer with it.
This is just my opinion. You may want to read what this guy has to say.

Thanks for the info. I will stay away from the dealer. It runs good a little white smoke on start up in the cold michigan mornings but other than that its just fine. Is there a way to tell what flash I do have?

I believe you need a scan tool to find out what update your ECM is on. I just recently got mine reflashed but it was because it was running like a Ford Model T for awhile. And it actually improved my fuel mileage and truck became more responsive.. I don't recommend getting the flash until you start to notice your turbo kicking in and out or your truck doesn't like to start even in 50 degree weather. That's what I waited for.

With a sct you can read the strategy. It is the only tuner I know for sure that will give you that info. Might try to find a willing user near you that has a sct. They can pull the strategy with their tuner in like 2 mins.
