Question EGR delete pros and cons?

A friend of mine has an '03 F250 cc 4x4 6.0L auto, The EGR went bad and he is considering getting a delete kit for it.
Just curious if anyone on here has any input on the pros and cons? Does it effect the longevity of the engine?

The kit they looked at was from bulletproofdiesel.com $1600

A local diesel Mechanic told him that he could delete it/ bypass it for $600 and didnt need a whole kit? What he meant by that I have'nt a clue? But apparently he can do it, and a guy I spoke with had it done by him and is going on 4 months now.
Your input is greatly appreciated! Thanks - Drew

there is only one down side and that is if its in warrenty it will void it if you have problems. deleting it is for the better as your oil will stay cleaner the engine wil stay cleaner and the fuel milage will go up. plus your getting rid of a major problem causer. i deleted the egr and egr cooler with a homade kit got like 20 bucks in it. just have to be able to weld.

when i did mine i removed the egr cooler and cut fittings off of the egr cooler had a pipe bent and welded coolant fittings from egr cooler to tube. depending on the year there is a scoop in the up pipe that must be cut out. then cut the flanges from the egr cooler and weld them shut. bolt them to the intake and the up pipe. then i welded a plug in the intake where the egr valve went. have had it like this for over a year now and no problems.
