Turbo Noise ?
Hey all,
I posted a few weeks ago regarding the CCV hose/O-ring that had come out. At that time I first noticed a distinctive high-pitched squeal or whine, that sounds like it may be from the turbo, not the usual whistle, but more whiney. I thought it may have been from that CCV hose leaking, but it's still there since the fix. Happens more under hard throttle from a standstill. Changed oil and filters today, seemed to have helped at first, but after stomping on it today (bye bye Tundra ! ) I noticed it again...not all the time, only on hard launch. With or without water/meth injecting. I know sounds are hard to describe online but : Has anyone ever experienced this ? ![]() Could this be a bearing ? Can stock turbos be rebuilt ? Is my wallet about to EXPLODE ? Any info greatly appreciated. Thanks ! "Gorilla" |

Maybe a cracked up-pipe? My truck had a cracked up-pipe a little while back and it would make an obnoxious turbo whistle at completely random times. Never had a loss of power or boost though.

Up-pipe was changed with EGR delete, looks ok as far as I can see.
Like I said, doesn't sound like an air "whistle", more like a high pitched bell ringing (?) Weird. Other questions still apply...Can these be re-built if needed ? Bearings ? Thx |

i have a high pinch squeeling sort of ringing to, it so high pinch it almost rings in your head when the hoods open, but at idle, somewhat on and off, i believe i need to replace the down pipe becuase my cab smells like exhaust at idle as well so i think its cracked

The 6.0 Garrett can be rebuilt if the blades have not hit or the oil seal housing is not damaged. The kit with seals, orings and bolts is less then $100. Check here if you wanna see pics. DIY Turbo Rebuild pictures by mil-specrestro - Photobucket

Mine just started making a loud screech above 10-15 psi of boost.
I looked today and it looks like my Y-pipe is cracked but this is a medal to medal sound. If I pull the turbo can the Y-pipe also be changed from the top or do I have to pull the down pipe to do it? |
