Info please
I have been looking to get a powerstroke for quite some time... I have recently come across a pretty good deal on a 2005. I have heard many horror stories about the 6.0 (head gaskets, egr, etc) but have been told that the only years you need to worry about are the 03-04 models. Can anyone verify or is the 6.0 in the 2005 still questionable.

All years with the 6.0 will be prone to the usual problems...with that said the '05-'07 models are better than the earlier years.
I have an '06 and it has 86K on the clock, it will puke from time to time, but has NEVER left me stranded. It starts everytime and runs like a raped ape. I would get an Oasis and look at it real good, if it checks out...I say go for it. |

Get a oasis report. All years of the 6.0l have had their problems. There is no year better than the other

I have an '05 and love it...great motor. I have had a Turbo issue, FICM died, HPOP STC fitting blown...but other than that...great motor. You can hear a lot of bad stories about any motor thats been on the street for a while. In some cases new models of some makers before they even hit the street...and mostly what you hear (unfortunately) is the bad...ever notice many don't remark on when things are going great.,..just complain about when things go bad...well thats what you're hearing. Most are founded on common concerns...so get an OASIS report a CARFAX report, and do some more home-work...the 05 MY powerplant and Tranny are great. You will enjoy them and find a whole new prospective on driving and owning a diesel. It can become like an addiiction though. Your significant others will become jealous of your new affair. |

I have to disagree with this opinion. In 05 the heads were redesigned because of the head gaskets blowing. The 05-07 are a bit more robust than the 03-04 but you still want to do an egr delete and stud it. Also there is a fitting on the HPOP which should be upgraded. Then you should have a real solid truck.

The redesigne didnt work then cause they still blow.
3 06's all 3 popped heads and 2 were bone stock, I would say no better than any other year of 6.0l |

what choctaw said. how ever the 03 and 04's are more prone to hpop problems but they refined it and changed some internals if im not mistaken and took care of that but i have a 04 that was made in october of 03 and its just great just amazing

Thanks for all the information! Is there anyone that can run a carfax or Oasis on the truck for me? I think that to do an Oasis you have to be a dealer correct?
