Just Bein' Curious

Now, I've heard the 03 year on the 6.0 was a really good year for the turbo. I've heard it, and I assumed it would be, but what was it that they did different in 03 compared to the other years? I'm not gonna do the 03 turbo swap but I was just wonderin' why everybody likes the 03 turbo year?

the 03 turbo has less exhaust turbine fins on it so it whistles louder... some have also said there is a slight power increase with the 03 turbo over 04-07 turbos

It only has 10 veins in the turbo, that is where the awesome sound comes from
FYI: 04's have 12 veins and 05-07's have 15 veins

I have heard that before, but Im not sure if I believe it or not.
I would really like to see some before and after dyno sheets of an 03 turbo swap

Ah ok! Thanks Wriott. It always seemed to me that the 03 turbo was louder. I thought I mighta just been dreamin' though. I didn't know it had anything to do with the vanes. Now it makes me kinda want to do the swap! lol. If there was a HP increase I'm sure it wouldn't be by too much more.

The 05+ has a improved unison ring and improved turbo drain tune. They are suppost to resist coking and be more reliable than the 03-04 units. I will say that most vgt performance turbos seem to be built around the 10 vane 03 type wheel not sure if that is for the sound or for actual power/cfm gains.
