There are a lot of threads on oil. It's a slippery slope. Most recommend 5w-40 synthetic. Just make sure it is diesel rated. Check tech files for more great info.

Dude i would not wait 7,000 mi. to change I don't even go that long on my 7.3, oil breaks down at 5,000, and bad oil will take its toll on the injectors over time, I run Delo 15w 40 in my 7.3 but going to switch to 5w 40 as soon as I find someone that carries it

Ford also recommends 5W40 from -20*F to 100*F

Yea probably not a good idea to go that far. Our HPOP's take a toll on oil. If you were running a 6.4 with a common rail maybe, but with the 6.0 I personally wouldn't...

Even with synthetics? In a gas motor they good for 12-15k. I don't know the inner workings of a diesel engine like I do gas. What's the difference as far as oiling? I changed my 03 6.0L at 7,500 miles like the owners manual said, but don't recall what type of oil it used.

Also, what does the oil have to do with injectors? don't they just squirt fuel?
