got "re-flashed" last week, but tuner still works

So, what's the deal with that? If I got the latest flash when I took my truck to the dealership (after I went back to stock tuned) with strategy VXCF5H5, and the new strategy is VXCF9 with the latest update, why does the tuner still work with my truck?

I take you have a SCT, if so you can use the canned tunes but you need new custom tunes sent to you to get everything out of them.

the tuner I have is an SCT xcal 2 with ID's custom tunes by Eric. I got the tunes about a year ago, before my recent re-flash, with my old strategy.

My understanding is that its hit and miss whether you will still be able to load a custom tune with aa differing strategy code...you seem to be the exception, however, there may be differences with the old tunes that may not work the same...I would definately check back with Eric and see what he says.

take the tune out and recheck your strategy.....I tried the same thing and all it did was give me my old strategy back.

I went from VXCF9 back to VXCF5.

alwil...sounds like you didn't Return To Stock prior to the dealer flash update...basically ensuring your device was unlocked. Which means that it retained your old strategy code on the device, thereby overwriting your new flash. Maybe you could explain to the dealer and they might re-flash you for free or cheaper.

No I reflashed my truck back to stock but I didnt unlock my tuner....If I really wanted to keep VXCF9 I would have had to erase all info from the tuner and use an unlock and then get new tunes.

Even after returning your truck to stock the device still retains your stock file.....right up untill you format and unlock it.

Since you got the flash and a new strategy you will have to have new tunes written to match your new strategy. Your "canned" tunes will work though.

I don't think the SCT will "overwrite" your truck.

In order to custom tune the truck you must have tunes written to match the new strategy.
