belt tensoiner is below the alt. Pull up really hard on the belt after you find it. And there is a spring loaded latch, on the arm of the tensoiner. That will hold it up. Change the alt. Replace the belt, pull up on the belt and the spring will release and you are done. Harder than it sounds, but not bad.

Exactly, find an angle where you are directly over the alt. Pull straight up to get the belt off the alt. Replace the alt do the same thing, except this time you're slipping it on. Get up under your truck and look to make sure the belt is on all the pulleys. First time I saw this was at the dealership. The mechanic there took about 10 minutes start to finish, I was amazed. Then he charged the customer like two hours work....

Got it done!! Thanks for all of the advice. I went with the brute strength method!! I pulled on the belt really hard and slipped it off of the alternator. Then I used a bungie cord to hold the belt up by wrapping it around the belt and hooking it onto the inside of the hood. I installed the new alternator and left the bolts loose so I could tip the alternator forward when putting the belt onto the new alternator. Worked out well. Thanks again.

On my tensioner the lock is not spring loaded but all you have to do is pull the belt toward the fender to pull up on the tensioner and then have a buddy reach in there under the outer pulley and pull up on the latch. I looked for a picture of the latch and couldn't find one so when I finally found it I crawled under the truck and snapped this picture. The latch is right under the small ribbed pulley. Using this latch would be much easier than trying to pull up and slip[ the belt on.
