Intake questions

im pretty sure i have a bad oil cooler. little bit of oil in the degas bottle.... so ive been looking at options that are cost effective ie cheap if that is even possible. so far ive seen that a new oil cooler and use the old cover is the best way to go. ill be pretty far into the truck and am seriously thinking of just welding up the egr cooler. welding up both ends. how well does this hold up? i have read a few people that have had good luck doing this and no real problems with it. next i was reading a few writeups and noticed the difference in the 03-early 04 intake and the 05+ intake. u shaped vs the oval shaped. what is the difference? if one better than the other? would modifying the oval shapped one be benificial? i was looking at fcdp site and it really looks like they used a early oval intake and modded it to a u shaped one. i know that go go had a super duper intake but for what i use my truck for it would be a over kill. if i will benifit from modding the current oval intake i might do that or try to find a u shaped one. i just can't find anywhere that has a definative awnser to which is a better unit. also can the oil cooler be removed with out taking off the intake?

The 03 has the oval manifold and the 04-07 has the horse shoe shaped one. I have heard that it was just a design change. I got my hands on another manifold and am also doing my own custom shall we say. If you simply weld up your existing cooler, that will only block the exhaust from flowing through the cooler, but will still allow coolant to flow through it. The best was is to eliminate this all togethor (like the FCDP & GOGO) so there is no possible way to get coolant into your intake if the cooler fails. Make sense?

Pm I think I know where there is an 03 manifold if your interested...
