Alright, might be a new guy with a Powerstroke but like the post says, I have some questions that hopefully you guys can help me with. First off I have always been a fan of ford but I know nothing about the diesels, granted I did talked my dad into buying a 08 F-350 last year. Anyway I currently own a, I know I know, a Tundra but its time to upgrade. I found a 2006 F-350 with 52k. The truck already has a MBRP 4” exhaust, CAI, and an Edge Evolution tuner, and seems to be in a good condition. The questions that I have is:
1. What can I expect with the 6.0? Is there any problems that I should know about?
2. I will be towing a 5th wheel (under 28’) and a 20’ cuddy cabin boat. Do I need to worry about tranny’s, rear ends or anything?
Give me all the input that you can. I want to be confident and happy with the change. Thanks for the input and feedback.
There are a couple problems that you might have to address with the 6.0. If you plan on running a tuner or chip it increases the risk of blowing a head gasket but it can also happen on a bone stock truck. Your transmission and rear end are up to the job. Do you know what gears are in it? If you are just looking for a tow rig then I would suggest looking for a low mileage 7.3. They are great tow rigs and extremely reliable.
Thanks for the reply. I am actually looking for a daily driver that doubles as a tow rig a couple dozen times a year. Is the headgasket a common problem? Does for have the 100k warranty? Or would this even cover it? It does already have an edge evolution micro chip (don't know anything about programing or chiping a diesel). The guy said that he has had it for about a year with no problems.
I think a 6.0 would fit your needs quite well. First I'd ditch the Edge on that truck though (Not good for the trans) If you end up getting a 6.0 and want to tune it go with SCT and some custom tuning :thumb:. Things to look out for.... headgaskets is going to be the biggest (and the one you'll hear about the most) Don't let that scare you though, there are plenty of people running stock and tuned 6 ohs HARD with stock head bolts and no problems. It IS a weak point though, as is the EGR cooler.
All in all the 6oh would make a great DD for you and does well towing  (even in stock form)
Thanks. Whats up the injector problems that I have been hearing about? So on a gas motor the headgaskets would be a sunday afternoon project, would the diesel be the same? Is there some tell tell signes that I sould look out for? Has the Edge already possibly caused damamge to the tranny? I know there are a lot of questions as I am new to diesels so thatnks for all the input.

Don't know :dunno:, what have you heard?

It's a cab off OR engine out job on a 6.0 , oh, and a bit of $$$$$$

Prop not (hopefully) unless the guy really beat the chit out of the truck all the time it should be ok. Have you driven the truck yet? How's it shift? Try to find a few other trucks to drive for comparison.

No prob :thumb:
Thanks for the comment. lol. Yea some of the questions are no brainers, but like I mentioned in the begining, I am completly new to the diesel and want a full understanding of them. So again thanks for all the input.
For what your doint the 6.0 should be fine but you have to worry about the head studs when you start runnin more performance mods, the tranny will be fine for towin but gauges with tranni temp and what not will let you know for sure. if you havent bought the truck yet i would look into gettin a 7.3 because they are the best built powerstroke i would say.
Welcome...don't recall you mentioning gauges...so I'm assuming the Edge Evo is your gauges...do you have an EGT guage? I agree that the Edge does nothing for your tranny, but could in fact hurt it...switch to an SCT for performance programming...get rid of the CAI and go back to Stock to prevent dusting your turbo (ask the seller if he still has it..if so...you want it..or make it a selling point). The 4" exhaust is a good thing. You will have a great rig for DD and towing. Check into the forum daily and check out other forums to gain as much knowledge as possible and you will be fine.
I Know for sure certain year Tacomas have frame rust issues but Toyota buys them back.
